Proposal

The banking system will be changed for registered married couples. The obvious effect will be that married couples can open an account together. Lots of people will want to keep their original account as well as open a joint account. Therefor we will have to set the account systems up so that you can have two accounts as a player. One will be solely yours, and the other will be the married account. The married accout will be taxed the same way as regular acounts (10%), but can be drawn upon by either person in the account.

Problems

• The main problem is divorce. When married couples have a divorce, lots of them decide on their own how to divvy up funds and assets. In this case, the easiest way to resolve any problems is to split the money straight down the middle. Of course, if one person objects to this resolution, a problem occurs. The only way I can legitimately think of as a solution is that neither player has access to that account until both persons in the divorce agree upon a sum. The two could go to Brax and have a command of some sort that will calculate the money into the percentages that each has agreed on. For example, if the command was "divvy maccount your% partner's%" Then if John was married to Josie, John could type in "divvy maccount 40 60" and Josie could type in "divvy maccount 60 40" Then John would recieve 40% of the funds, and Josie would recieve 60%. Thus, problem solved.

  • To a certain extent I think arguments about funds should exist. If the account is joint then it doesn't make much sense to keep the funds donated monitored carefully. The players should keep track of who has deposited what. -- DevonScarfe - 10 Sep 2003
    • I think as a player keeping track of how much money you deposit and withdraw can get too cumbersome. It would be best if you just coded it in for the player. Otherwise it would just raise too many arguements about thier money and create and unfriendly atmosphere. -- EmbeR - 11 Sep 2003
      • Noone is forcing you to open such an account, nor deposit to it if you do have such an account. If you do open one then I think you call it a shared pool and haggle at the divource time. I don't mind DevonScarfe's idea of having to get both players to agree. -- FantoM - 11 Sep 2003
• When one part of the couple decides to divorce, he can simply withdraw all the money and put it into his own account, then there will be nothing to settle. For this to work, the couple can have no private accounts (he'll still be able to carry it around, though, thus again, nothing to settle), thus I can not see this system function for a normal money-account, only for static property like buildings). Exception being if all withdrawals from the account has to be agreed on from both players, making the shared account pointless in that end of the string instead OR if the account has a maximum per-day usage, so you can't withdraw all at once without permittance from the other half. -- PumaN - 11 Sep 2003

      • I think we shouldn't have to worry about someone getting scewed like so. We can call it "part of the game", I think it would add some nice tactics to large inheritances... just make it so the players have to agree on the joint bank account (both present during creation) and both players have to be present and agree on a divorce. This way players can freely access the money. Though being able to access a history on who donated and withdrew what would still be nice. -- EmbeR - 13 Dec 2003
• We have to handle a player being wiped or dying permanently. In such a case I think the account becomes owned by the single remaining player. If both get wiped then the account disolves. We'd need a way of ensuring that if a player gets wiped or dies permanently and then recreates themselves in the same name that they are not automatically entitled to access to the account. -- FantoM - 11 Sep 2003

• What do we actually get as a result of all this coding work? A type of account that very few will use - especially seeing as they can share money using their normal accounts without any trouble - just by withdrawing and giving. I don't think we should bother at all.. -- FantoM - 16 Sep 2003
  • We could expand shared bank accounts to include clans and guilds as well. So they can have shared funds, and that, is very good. However, it will mean a player have more than one bank account. -- FreD - 11 Dec 2003 08:42
